Shamrockin’ Club

Attention 6th Grade Students!   Are you ready for some fun?
Sign up for the Shamrockin’ Dance Club

The Shamrockin’ Dance Club is a beloved tradition for all Dublin sixth graders. For 4 evenings during the month of February and beginning of March, you’ll meet in the gym at one of the middle schools for really fun dance lessons – from classic dance steps to the newest group line dances – with a professional dance instructor! You will also learn dance and social etiquette and have a great time while doing it! The Shamrockin’ Dance Club concludes with a Sunday afternoon party at the Bridgewater Banquet Center. If you can’t go to a lesson at your assigned school, you can easily make-up a class at another middle school. Registration for the Sixth-Grade Shamrockin’ Dance Club has begun. Please return your form and payment to your homeroom teachers. The cost is $40 and covers all four lessons as well as the final party. Take a look at the registration form for dates, times and other important information. Please contact Mary Gallo at[email protected] if you have any questions.

See you on the dance floor!

Blankets for Ronald McDonald House

Today we began working on our fleece blankets in Makerspace.  We funded this project from the dunk tank event at the last  tailgate.  The kids enjoyed making them and are excited to give children who are sick something warm and soft to comfort them.  We will be working on this project over the next several days, be on the lookout for opportunities to volunteer.  It’s fun to be in the classroom!

**Volunteering in the classroom requires you to be fingerprinted by the district OR have your volunteer card.  You can get your volunteer card through the district webpage

Sells PTO is committed to supporting the district in opening the community conversation around, Drugs, Alcohol and Mental Health.  To show our commitment, we have packed the month of October with some great programming.  Tuesday October 25th we will be hosting Tracey Miller as he presents  his Multi Media, interactive Drug and Alcohol presentation.  The event is FREE but, seating is limited.  It is a wonderful hands on presentation so please reserve  your seat with the link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090f4ca9a72ca2ff2-community  THIS PRESENTATION IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR OUR STUDENTS, PARENTS ONLY PLEASE.

October is Bullying Awareness month.  Did you know that One out of every four students (22%) report being bullied during the school year and  more than half of bullying situations (57 percent) stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied.  School-based bullying prevention programs decrease bullying by up to 25%.  Sells wants to help raise awareness and REDUCE bullying.  The PTO, in conjunction with Guidance and Junior TI,  is sponsoring a powerful anti bullying performance.  Elec Simon, will speak to our students on October 31st at 9am to discuss the impact of bullying and what each of our students can do to stop it in a fun and interactive way.  To learn more about Elec Simon and his performance, please watch his youtube video.

Conference Night Volunteers

brutus

The theme for our first conference meal is BUCKEYE TAILGATE. During conference meals our teachers and staff eat in three shifts with the first seating at 4:30 PM in the library. Please bring all donated food in disposable aluminum dishes or disposable dessert plates. I will be heating all hamburgers, hot dogs, and casseroles in the kitchen at the school. GFS is a great resource for bulk items and has good specials on hamburgers and hot dogs, right now. Our teachers LOVE their carbs and their sweets! We will be feeding a little over 120 staff members in about an hour and a half. It is a busy and fun time if you are available to help out or donate. You can message me if you need to drop off on Monday in the office and I will transfer to cooler at the school. Tuesday is preferred for food drop off in office. Your help and kindness is very much appreciated.

Thanks! Victoria Gilles

PTO collaborating with Guidance to host Anti-bullying speaker

October is Bullying awareness month. Anti-bullying is a part of the Guidance Curriculum and also one of the core values of rock-pride Rock Pride.   Sells PTO, in collaboration with Guidance will be sponsoring an anti-bullying presentation, performed by Elec Simon. He spoke at Davis Middle School this year, where the kids stated it was one of the BEST and most POWERFUL speakers they have ever heard. That is an impressive endorsement from 12 year olds! I have attached a link for those of you interested in seeing what Elec is all about! He will be performing for the students at 9:30am on October 31st. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBuLbDYG-oQ

Thank you for all of your support, it is because of your donations that we are able to make this presentation possible.

Welcome to our new website!!

It’s been a long time coming Sells families but we FINALLY have our very own website.  We hope this provides you a great resource outside of Facebook to get information on school news and events that are happening at Sells from week to week.

We had a GREAT tailgate Wednesday.  Thank you to Michele Krohn-Harper and all the volunteers that helped make this event a success.  I also want to give a HUGE thank you to Matt Sachtleben, Joe Santa- Emma, Tom McCauley, Kathy Chitwood, and Sarah Steggeman for volunteering to get in the dunk tank.  The kids had a blast and the money raised will fund our Ronald McDonald Blanket project in MakerSpace.

Join Us For a Great PTO Year!

My name is Jennifer Simonette, and I’m the 2016-2017 PTO President. Our PTO is dedicated to creating learning opportunities for our teachers by funding fun and exciting teaching programs. Last year, with your help, we contributed more than $40,000 to fund Sells’ classrooms, including Makerspace, Language Arts classroom libraries and new Science tools. We provided our kids some AMAZING out-of-the-box learning opportunities and a new sound and recording system for our Choir room! We support many social events throughout the year, as well — giving both our kids and parents the opportunity to get to know each other. This year we’ll host canteens and tailgates, geared towards our 6th graders, as well as some fun events for the whole school and our upperclassmen. None of this is possible without everyone’s support!

We’re asking for a $25 donation from EVERY Sells Family.

We’re also asking that you please consider volunteering for one of our many events throughout the year. None of the activities we do are possible without parents to lend a helping hand.

We’re looking forward to having multiple PTO meetings with informative speakers. PLEASE save the date for our first meeting on September 7th at 7pm at Pizzafire, which will be a meet and greet with the PTO, our principal and teachers.

Thank you for all your support. If you have any questions regarding the PTO or how to get involved,  please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  We’re looking forward to a GREAT year!

Kindly,

Jennifer Simonette
